A photographer who works on construction sites has been testing two specialty tools from Vampire Tools: the Super Combo Scissors and the Brute Screw Extractor Pliers. Both tools are designed for professionals but priced competitively, $30 for the scissors and $36 for the pliers, and the user found them well-built compared to standard big-box store options.
The Super Combo Scissors (VT-011) stand out with four functions: a flat blade for cutting fabric and paper, a serrated lower blade to grip materials without slipping, a wire cutter near the handle, and a built-in safety box opener. The serrated blade performed well for heavy-duty tasks like cutting 550 paracord, but users noted it required careful handling when slicing 6-mil plastic or setting dust barrier walls. The included plastic sheath was durable, though the user suggested a belt clip would improve convenience.

In site protection the scissors trim finish floor guard for hardwood floors, cut rosin paper and Ram Board, and slice heavy-duty 4-mil and 6-mil plastic as well as light painters’ plastic, giving crews a single tool for protective barriers. The flat blade cuts cloth and paper cleanly, while the serrated edge grips material, letting users move from fabric dust barriers to rigid plastic sheets without swapping tools; the wire cutter handles copper or steel wire, and the built-in box opener eases carton opening on site.
The Brute Screw Extractor Pliers (VT-002-6) are smaller than lineman’s pliers but feature a black oxide coating for durability and thermoplastic rubber grips that reduce slippage. Their aggressive teeth, marketed for gripping stripped fasteners, showed limited success in testing. The pliers’ compact size and comfortable feel made them practical for daily use. The pliers’ 6.25-inch length and clipped-nose profile let the user reach into confined openings where standard needle-nose pliers would miss, while the black oxide coating resists corrosion even after repeated exposure to moisture and oil.
